Welcome to The Algonquin Highlands Heritage Project

This is a project of volunteers in the Oxtongue Lake area, the Dorset Museum, the Stanhope Museum, and you!

We want to invite our seniors, other residents, and folks from away to capture, preserve and promote the culture and heritage of the Township of Algonquin Highlands.

Whether you are young or old, we welcome your input – information, photos, documents, and stories – as we create and build on the history and culture of our communities.

We’ve created two websites:

  • The Heritage Map website features cultural and historical maps of our township, full of interesting information on pioneer settlers and settlements, historic sites, veterans and local lore.
  • The Family Tree website is a place to explore the families of settlers who were born, lived or died here in the Township of Algonquin Highlands.

If you would like to share with us, please email us here. This project is funded by a New Horizons for Seniors Grant and supported by the Township of Algonquin Highlands.
